Fourth of July Safety Tips

By June 24, 2016 June 26th, 2019 No Comments

With the 4th quickly approaching, we all have a reason to celebrate. A day off celebrating with family and friends with grilling and ridiculous amounts of desserts, who could complain? We are offering some important safety tips to kick off this summer and to create a safe environment for everyone to spend their day (or, in most kids cases, days of summer) off!

Grilling

Always grill outdoors. Be sure that grills are away from the house or deck, and they are not underneath overhanging branches. Do not use gas or charcoal grills on the porch or balcony, unless the gas grill is on the first floor deck or patio with an outdoor stairway to the ground/it is at ground level. Be sure to keep all matches, lighter fluids and lighters away from kids. Be sure that children and pets are at least three feet away from grills.

Swimming

Always supervise the pool, or have a designated supervisor. Make sure that person is not distracted, because pool related incidents happen in an instant. Be sure that any child who is not a strong swimmer has a lifejacket on, and do not condone poolside running.

Fireworks

Fireworks are illegal in some states. Be sure to check your state laws and do not use fireworks illegally and unsafely. If you do have fireworks legally, make sure you know exactly how to use them to avoid causing harm to yourself or even innocent bystanders.

Bonfires

Be sure children know the dangers of bonfires. If you have seating set up around a fire, be sure there is enough room between the seats and the fire, and if someone is leaving, make sure they walk behind everyone else instead of between another person and the fire. If you are roasting marshmallows or any type of food on a fire, be sure you are using safe utensils and DO NOT EVER swing the food or the roasting stick around.

Home

While most people spend the day outside or away from home, be sure that your home is properly secure with your home security system. If you have any questions about home security, visit our site here:
