Assessing Your Need For Home Security Cameras

Security Cameras = Legitimate Sense of Safety

Unfortunately, the world is not as safe as it used to be. You need to do what you can to protect yourself and your family. Home security cameras can give you a legitimate sense of safety whether you are at home or away. Here are a few things to consider when determining needs and whether or not to install cameras.

Identify Outdoor Problem Areas

  • Entry Ways (including doors and windows) – Are they vulnerable to unauthorized entry? Good lighting and home security cameras are a good prevention measure.
  • Air Vents and Pet Doors – Can vandals gain entry here? Camera surveillance may deter those gutsy vandals.
  • Low Lit Areas – In areas with poor lighting that cannot be improved, consider an infrared camera that can take pictures at night even without good light. Infrared cameras can also be made water-proof for use in unsheltered areas.
  • Outdoor Play Areas – As your kids get older, it’s often comforting to keep an eye on them while they are outside – while, at the same time, staying busy with all that you have to do inside. Installing a camera in your backyard, driveway or outdoor play area is very comforting for busy parents. Be sure to capture the periphery of your house, also – so you can see what neighborhood kids are coming and going.

Consider A Need For Indoor Cameras

  • Check on Service People or Hired Help? – Undoubtedly, one of the biggest reasons people install indoor camera systems is to check on service people or hired help (cleaning people, repairmen, maintenance workers). Quickly glancing at your cameras while you can still be productive at work (or on the golf course!) allows you great peace of mind and freedom.
  • Children Home Alone? – If you have children who are home alone part of the day, you can have security cameras installed so that you can monitor their activities while you are not there. Ask about the texting option, also so you can be alerted when they arrive home.
  • Babysitter or Nanny? – Nanny cams have been in the news showing how parents can hide a camera in order to capture exactly how their baby sitter is treating their infants or young children.
  • Have Pets? – Again, some people are nuts about thier pets (ahem, I mean-“kids”). Having a security camera in your house allows you to peek in on them periodically throughout the day.

Other Surveillance Devices

When considering a security camera purchase for your home, there are many options on the market today. In addition to the cameras themselves, there are devices that can be used to deter activity or capture images to be viewed at a later time.

  • Motion sensor lights are valuable tools. They can make it easier for you to find your way into your home at night and, at the same time, deter potential vandals or criminals who may attempt an unauthorized entry.
  • A digital video-recorder keeps extended surveillance records to identify intruders if necessary.
  • If your purpose is to deter vandals or criminals, place at least one of your home security cameras where it can be easily seen. Just knowing you have such a device will be a deterrent to potential intruders.

Surveillance devices can be installed wherever you determine you need them. With current technology, the best security cameras can have peace of mind knowing your home and loved ones are protected.
