Fire prevention tips

For Immediate Release

BUFFALO, NY -- Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9-15, and Shield Security would like to take this time to remind you that fire safety is about “respecting the flame” -- always be mindful while around anything burning, whether it’s candles, cigarettes, stove or fireplace.

Understanding the leading cause of structure fires will go a long way in protecting you and your home or business.  It’s all a matter of educating yourself and planning.

We’ll start in the kitchen. Carelessness while cooking is the leading cause of home fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association (www.nfpa.org).  They suggest staying in the room while cooking and leaving all rags, oven mitts, food packaging, etc., away from the burners.

Always be alert and not sleepy while smoking, and if possible, step outside.  Always make sure that your cigarette is completely out before discarding; it can’t hurt to run it under water!  Never smoke in a home where oxygen is being used, and even if you don’t smoke, always keep matches and lighters up high, out of children's sight and reach.

Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers can go a long way toward saving lives. Put smoke detectors in every level of the house, test them all at least once a month and change the battery at least once a year.  Fire extinguishers should be in the kitchen, garage, and workshop - and make sure you know exactly where they are and how to use them. Read the directions before mounting, and remember - they are only for small fires.  If there is a large fire, get out immediately and call 911 from another location.

We care about your safety. Mind these easy-to-follow instructions and you will live a fire-free life!

SHIELD Security Systems Featured In Business First

Buffalo, New York - August 26, 2011 - Ken Jezioro, owner of SHIELD Security Systems, knew that he needed a security system for his own home, but little did he know that this need would provide the platform for an international company 35 years later. This is an exciting day for this Buffalo based, privately held company.

Ken's story was featured in this week's Business First, Western New York's Business Newspaper.  Read it here.

"I'm thrilled," says Jezioro. "I never thought much about growing an international company.  My focus was primarily on providing good-old-fashioned customer service.  It still is, in fact. I always think about my customer and the service that I'm honored to provide for them."

Ken's passion for his business evolved to embrace an entrepreneurial spirit that, in recent years, resulted in an international footprint for SHIELD Security Systems. The SHIELD franchise model includes offices throughout the United States and most recently, Australia.

SHIELD franchise owners reap the benefit of Jezioro's 30-year police force and street-smart experience and learn how to construct security systems that are effective in keeping both homes and businesses secure.

"Our systems use state of the art technology combined with real-life law enforcement experience, added Ken.  "We offer quality protection at reasonable prices."

SHIELD Security Systems protects families, homes and businesses from burglaries, fires, smoke, flooding and various environmental emergencies by using state-of-the art electronics and 24/7 central station monitoring.

Traditional home phone lines are slated for extinction. Are you ready?

The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has set a timetable for phasing out traditional analog phone lines commonly known as Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) lines. Much like the analog television transmissions, phone lines will also be a thing of the past.

Many of our clients have already eliminated their home phones in exchange for the convenience and flexibility of cellular phones. We recommend installing a GSM radio unit or (even better) Internet monitoring of your SHIELD Security System. With this new service, you can manage your security system from your smart phones or from a PC via the Internet.

Both of these options save our customers the cost of a monthly phone bill. That means hundreds of dollars saved annually! Call us for details.

Wireless Key Offers Up to Eight Programmable Functions, Including Summoning Emergency Contacts with a Single Button

SHIELD Security Systems now offers customers a simplified alternative to bulky key fobs.  This new, slim wireless key fob allows homeowners the ability to summon police, fire and other designated emergency contacts with the push of a button. The Honeywell 5834-4 Wireless Key offers up to eight programmable functions, including the standard lock and unlock functions, and is 15-percent smaller than previous key fob models.

Recessed, tactile keys and push-button operation may help reduce false alarms.

The 5834-4 Wireless Key is compatible with Honeywell’s popular 5800 series of wireless products. Customers can easily replace the long-life lithium battery that powers the key fob. For additional information, contact your SHIELD representative at 1-800-4-SHIELD (474-4353).
