1. I have a question about operating my SHIELD® Security System.

Answer: Refer to the operations manual we supplied to you after we completed your installation. We are in the process of placing all of our manuals on this site for your review and download. If you can not locate your owner's operation manual or have additional questions, please contact your local SHIELD® Security Systems Office or the Corporate Business office at 1-800-4 SHIELD (800-474-4353).

 

2. How can I test my SHIELD® Security System?

Answer: Follow the steps below:

  • CAll 1-800-4-SHIELD (800-474-4353) ask to be connected to a central station operator.
  • Give the operator your name, address and false alarm code.
  • Ask the operator to put your system on test for 30 minutes.
  • Arm your system, open and close an entry door (to make the system think you left the premises).
  • Wait at least 30 seconds (a 30 entry delay) for the system to completely arm.
  • Open the door (there will also be approximately a 30 entry delay before the system is tripped.  The siren will begin sounding and will continue to sound through out the test.
  • Walk around and trip every door, window, motion detector.
  • Turn off the system by entering your code. WAIT at least 5 minutes for the panel to send all the signals in and DO NOT MAKE ANY PHONE CALLS DURING THIS TIME.  IT WILL ONLY DELAY THE PROCESS.
  • Call back and ask to be connected to a central station operator.
  • Give the operator your name, address and false alarm code.
  • Ask the operator to verify all of the signals that were received.
  • If after testing, you feel that any specific signal was not received, you can advise the operator to leave the system on test, and repeat the process for that zone only.
  • If after testing you are satisfied that your system is working properly, ask the operator to take your system off test.

 

3. How much does a SHIELD® Security System cost?

Answer: Because we pride ourselves on our custom designed installations, it is difficult to quote a price without first determining your needs. Our technicians are happy to come out to your home or business for a FREE, no obligation assessment of your security needs.

We have systems that fit every need and budget starting as low as $99.00 for a simple space protection system to $800 - $1,000 for more elaborate perimeter protection systems.

 

4. How much time does it take to install a security system?

Answer: Installation times vary based on the type of system you choose, but it’s safe to say most installations are done in one day or less.

 

5. How much damage can I expect to my home or business during an installation?

Answer: Since we conceal all of the wiring during installation, there is some cutting and drilling that must be done. Our technicians take great care to avoid unnecessary damage and in 99% of our installs, there is none. If we do make an unwanted hole, we will patch it and prepare it for you to paint.

 

6. I already have a security system in my home. How do I convert it to a SHIELD® Security System?

Answer: We can convert any existing system to a SHIELD® Security System. If your previous provider has not ‘data locked’ your communicator, there is no fee to convert your system. If they have, we may need to change the processor and will do so at cost or less than cost when you sign a short monitoring agreement (24-36 months). Learn more by calling us at 716-681-6677.

7. What is audio verification?

Answer: Audio verification is an optional service we provide to our customers so that they don’t have to wait for a telephone call from our operators in an emergency. Once an alarm has been transmitted, we open a line to you through a speaker in the alarm unit and our operators will talk to you directly.

 

8. What if an intruder cuts my phone line or I lose power?

Answer: If your phone line is severed, our central station will be alerted immediately – even before the intruder activates the security system itself. We offer an economical cellular back-up system to your land line phone which is virtually impossible for burglars to block.

Power outages or interruptions are covered by an emergency power supply installed with every SHIELD® Security System. Your system is capable of operating without power for at least one full day.
